PI System Infrastructure Implementation and Integration

Objetives

The primary objective is to install the PI System™. The installation is performed remotely or on-site by a qualified engineer accredited by OSISoft® as a PI System Installation Specialist.

Scope

The scope of this package is limited to a single PI Server and two standard PI Interfaces or PI Connectors.

Deliverables

Perform pre-installation checklist review with the customer and confirm that all prerequisites are met before proceeding.


  • Provide guidance on architecture and hardware sizing.

Install the PI Server™ software package, which includes:


  • Data Archive, either standalone or a High Availability PI Collective™
  • Asset Framework (AF) with Notifications, Asset Analytics, and Event Frames.
  • PI Interfaces for system monitoring.

Configure the Data Archive according to OSIsoft best practices:


  • Configure and test Data Archive backup.
  • Configure and test automatic archive creation.
  • Configure tuning parameters.
  • Configure a set of monitoring tags to track Data Archive server performance.

Configure AF and Notifications according to OSIsoft’s best practices:


  • Configure the AF SQL database backup (only when SQL Server Express is installed locally on the AF Server machine).
  • Configure and test Notifications.

Install, configure, and test up to two standard PI Interfaces or PI Connectors:


  • Validate communication with the data source.
  • Configure and test buffering.
  • Configure up to 10,000 tags.
  • Configure PI Interface or PI Connector failover if applicable.
  • Install PI ProcessBook™ and PI DataLink™ software on one client station.
  • Install System Management Tools (SMT) and PI System Explorer™ on one management Post-install verification.
  • PI System management overview.
  • OSIsoft technical support and training curriculum overviews.
  • PI System Introduction (time permitting).
  • Installation report.

Timeline

The implementation dates will be mutually agreed after the formal acceptance of the service. The implementation process, from the request until its completion, normally lasts 3 weeks.

Week 1 and 2 - Communication of prerequisites, software request to OSIsoft. Hardware request, and operating system for PI Server nodes and Interfaces. Confirmation of implementation dates with PIPER.

Week 3 - Implementation on Site or Remote by PIPER (From 4 to 6 days according to the selected option).

Requirements

  • Hardware and operating systems of all PI System nodes must be installed and operational before PIPER arrival. A PIPER specialist will confirm that the hardware requirements are met during the preparation stage.
  • The hardware of the acquisition node (API Node) and its operating system must be installed and operational before PIPER arrival.
  • The Asset Framework server requires access to SQL Server (Version 2008 or higher, in any of its editions). If there is no available SQL server, SQL Express will be installed.
  • TCP / IP communication must be enabled and operational between all PI System nodes and the required ports must be open. The Data Archive communicates through port 5450, AF communicates through port 5457 and 5459, PI Analysis Service communicates through port 5463, PI Notifications communicates through port 5468.
  • Most interfaces require third-party hardware and software to be installed before the arrival of PIPER. Specific requirements will be validated during the coordination prior to implementation.
  • Customer’s technical staff must be available to provide access to the system during the audit (PI System, Security, Network and Control Systems).
  • Customer must have a valid account on the OSIsoft Technical Support website with permission to download the required software. This account is also necessary to generate the license file for the PI Data Archive.
  • Customer must provide an electronic version of the configuration of the signals extracted directly from the data source (Tagname, description, zero, span, engineering units, point type, state information, and control system address). The required information will be validated during the review of the checklist prior to implementation.
  • Customer must provide a configuration station with Microsoft® Excel® software.
  • Customer must guarantee the validity of the security permits required for access to their organization as a prerequisite to the visit.
